Welcome to Spain week one!

Welcome to Spain!  This first week has flown by!  El Masroig is a lovely little town population 520 (plus 2!) It has narrow little streets and the oldest home I've found thus far has a marker dating 1796.  People are friendly and speak NO English.  Russell has invited our neighbors over tonight for a drink.  I will smile like a jackass and try to understand a word here and there.  It is quite rural, lovely countryside covered with vineyards, fruit trees, olive and almond trees everywhere, and I mean everywhere.  Most men in our town seem to be farmers and tractors putt down the streets all the time.  Russell has been tending his vines and is in heaven.  He clips and trims and I haul the clippings to the burn pile like a burro.  We cool off in the big lovely community pool about 20 paces away from the vineyard.

We took a day off to drive to Delta Ebre, passing miles of  green rice farms and ending at a big beach.  Another day we drove to Tarragona, a large city also on a big beach with tons of Roman ruins we tromped through.  I ate paella at a seaside restaurant which was NOT as tasty as Jodie's!

We took a hike yesterday evening to look for some ancient ruins but couldn't find them.  I did come back with arm load of rosemary and thyme growning wild all over.  We will look again tonight.

Thank all of you for your well wishes for our departure!  Everyone's kindness and enthusiasm has been overwhelming.  We will try to post once a week, and keep you posted on our adventures, in hopes you all will consider visiting here one of these years!  Adios!  Love, Susan

  1. Hello. I've been reading through your blog and been meaning to comment through on some of it. Forgive the sporadic-ness of it.

Congratulations on moving there! How amazing to be able to go on this amazing journey!
